Nell Gwynn House

Nell Gwynn House is a purpose-built art deco apartment block dating from the 1930s which traditionally accommodated actors, actresses and others from the entertainment industry during their London stage performances. (In addition to being the mistress of Charles II, Nell Gwynn was a famous actress of her day. Indeed King’s Road, at the end of Sloane Avenue where Nell Gwynn House stands, was the road Charles travelled to visit his mistress from Hampton Court.)

These associations have diminished in recent years but the atmosphere lingers and it is easy to imagine the leading ladies, divas and gentlemen passing extravagantly through the elegant foyer when one stands there today. Great care has been taken to preserve the historical character of the building while bringing it into the 21st century.

Our Apartments

We have selected the best apartments in this historic building to offer to the business or holiday traveller. There is a range of sizes from smaller and larger one-bedrooms as well as studios and two-bed apartments. Each one is a stylish, welcoming, well-appointed home away from home. All are recently refurbished to a high specification with modern facilities and attractive furnishings and fittings.

For example, our larger one bedroom flat has a spacious kitchen/living area with a light, airy feel at the top (9th) floor with far-reaching views of the rooftops and monuments of London and a southeastern aspect to catch the morning sun. A large sofa and a 32” plasma screen ensure cosy indoor relaxation and entertainment after a long day at the office or sightseeing. The kitchenette is fully equipped including fridge/freezer, oven/hob/stove, microwave, dishwasher and washer/dryer. A luxurious double/twin bedroom with its own TV and bathroom completes the generous layout. Our other apartments are similarly appointed.

Services

Of course, all the services and facilities you would expect are there: daily maid service, linen change, concierge, porter, secretarial, dry cleaning, laundry, safe deposits and up-to-date information and communications technology – broadband internet access, satellite TV, DVD/audio system and direct dial telephone. Parking is available in the building and many other services are to be found in the immediate vicinity, including convenience stores and pharmacy.
